Clogged drains pipes can be troublesome for a householder.

Clogged drains pipes can be troublesome for a householder.

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your feet. A blocked drain pipe, quite disgusting and a sign of problems to come!. What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drainpipe!. Clearing obstructed drains is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drainage make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drains are). But the fact is that sooner or later, a bathroom drain pipe is going to become blocked or suffer a stoppage. The most preferred approach is to prepare ahead of time for such a predicament by educating oneself on how to fix bathroom drainage when the drain pipe pipes become stopped.

What causes a obstructed drain?.

Blocked drainage can result from trapped solid objects such as hair, dust and particles between your bathroom drain and the attached pipes. The problem is further exacerbated when household products such as soaps, detergents, shampoos and conditioners and others are allowed to build up on the growing accumulation. Eventually this will become more and more dense and this is what prevents your water flowing uninhibited through your drainpipe. If you notice water getting accumulated in your tub or sink, you definitely have blocked drains.

Some effective ways to unblock your bathroom drain are listed below.

If you want your water to start flowing freely then there are a few things you can do to rectify the problem. Whether you are working with a sink or a bath drainpipe, the first step to take is to remove the stopper. With a bathroom sink this can be as easy as pulling it right out or as complicated a problem as looking under the sink and removing the nut that holds it in place. In case of your bathtub, the plug can be unscrewed at the mouth of the drainage or the overflow plate can be removed to expose the assembly.

You may be able to see the clog clearly after the plug has been taken out. Chances are you’ll see a clump of hair mixed with other materials just below the drain pipe. Try to get as much of this out as possible by hand, this could solve the drains problem. You may find it difficult to get at the blockage, in which case you could use something like a wire hanger to fish the material out. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drain pipe point.

In a case of deeper clogging, your hand or hooked wire may not do the trick – you may have to try the next step. Use a drainpipe plunger to loosen the blockage that is deeper down the pipework. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drainpipe – this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Now put the plunger over the drainpipe and move it up and down continuously at an even pace. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.

You may have to turn to a chemical solution, if the plunger fails to do the job. This method should only be used as a last resort because the chemicals used are dangerous and can be harmful to your bathroom fixtures.

If all else fails, get a professional drainage service in.

If all the do-it-yourself methods fail, then call a plumber experienced in drainage work to do the needful. Plumbers have special equipment to clean the stopped drains speedily and effortlessly such as a drainage snake, drains contractors also employ water jetting to clear blockages and cctv drains cameras to view inside the drain. Although availing plumber services can be a high-priced proposal it gives you the much needed peace of mind as the water starts running and the mess is cleaned up.
