How to take on the clogged sewers problem
What are some of the best remedies to open clogged up drains pipes of your bathroom? The typical plunger is easiest and speediest solution. The whole process of unclogging a blocked drainpipe is pretty simple and straightforward. But don’t just shove the plunger into the drainage and start pumping it violently, you could make matters much worse. Place the cup of the plunger exactly over the drain pipe and push it downwards and upwards with short sharp movements that generate suction within the drain pipe and pipe. The suction created with the upward movement will pull back the clog that is stuck in the drainpipe of your tub, sink or toilet. Some tubs and sinks have an overflow outlet; remember to plug this outlet with the help of a wet towel or sponge before using the plunger.
Chemical unblocking agents can also be used to dislodge or dissolve stopped matter. The chemicals are normally applied only after an unsuccessful attempt to remove the clog using a plunger. Leave the chemical for a few minutes so that it loosens the blockage, and then use hot water to rinse out the drainage, taking care not to splash yourself. Just to be careful, you must put on clothes that you wouldn’t care about if they get spoiled by dirt or harmful chemicals. After chemical flushing, you may try the plunger again – this can cause the chemical/water mix to splash back on you – eye guards are highly advisable here. Always read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully before use to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Another thing that you can do, if the plunger doesnt remove the blockage, is to use the pliers and pipe wrench to open the nuts that hold the P-trap in place. You should have a bucket and a towel handy as this can be a really dirty job. Use an electrical tape to encircle the jaws of your wrench so that you can get a better grip on the pipes and also maintain their chrome finish without scratching them. Once the P-trap is removed, check the trap for any solid materials obstructing the pipe opening. Unfortunately if you can’t find anything, the problem probably runs a lot deeper and could be anywhere between the trap and the soil stack.
In case of a blocked toilet, you can apply a toilet auger. If you are attempting to clean the drainpipe of your tub or sink, you should use a drain snake. drainpipe snakes are manufactured to be able to access the far side of your pipes as narrow as they may be. By twisting the adjustable handle to drill into the blockage, you then pull the obstruction up and out of your drain pipe. Once the obstruction is out, reconnect the P-trap and run hot water through the drain pipe to confirm that it is clear. Make certain the whole thing is tightly closed and check for any leakage in the P-trap and ensure that the water flows well.
If all these methods fail then you need to call in a professional plumber. Professional plumbers can identify and solve serious problems like aged pipes caving in, tree root invasion, blocked sewer line or soil stack; these should not be attempted by the homeowner as you will not have the right tools to solve the problem.
