It is remarkably distressing to address obstructed sewers.
You might notice the plugged drains when you are in shower and suddenly the water level starts rising up. How disgusting! the drain pipe is obstructed . Or while brushing your teeth by the sink, all of a sudden the sink starts to fill up. Nobody likes to deal with choked drains because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). However, blocked drains are something that cannot be avoided; every household has to cope with it sooner or later. Every householder must know how to fight that monster of a clogged up drainpipe.
Why do drains get obstructed?.
choked drains can occur when some material such as hair, dust and particles become trapped in the area between your bathroom drain pipe and the drainage pipes that follow underneath. The problem gets worse when the particle build up is cemented together by the residues of detergents and cleansing cosmetic items. As the mass grows, it restricts the free flow of water, and the drain pipe eventually becomes clogged up. If the water has started building up quickly in your tub or sink, then without delay you should unclog the drain pipe.
How to remove the drainpipe blockage.
If you happen to have a blocked sink or bathtub, there are some steps you can take to clear up the passage ways and create a normal flow once again. First of all the plug should be removed. Look beneath the sink, you may have to remove a nut that secures the plug or in some cases you can just directly pull out the plug by the u-bend. With respect to the bathtub, the screws have to be loosened to remove the stopper or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.
You might be able to see the reason for the blockage after you have successfully taken the plug out. Those greasy lumps of entangled hair and residue can be seen sticking to the sides and corners of the drain pipe. Reach down into the pipe and pull out as much as possible. If it is difficult to reach the area where the blockage is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. Removing the hair, detergent residues and the rest of the material will surely solve your problem.
In a case of deeper clogging, your hand or hooked wire may not do the trick – you may have to try the next step. The most practical way to clean such deep-seated clogs is a drainpipe plunger. In the first step, use a wet cloth to cover the overflowing drain, and then use the plunger; this will make the suction stronger. Then, put the plunger over the drain pipe and push up and down half a dozen times. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drainpipe as the vacuum created freed the blockage.
If the plunger method fails to properly unblock your drain, you may have to resort to using chemical drainpipe cleaner. However this should be your last resort because the chemicals used can harm your bathroom fittings and accessories, they are corrosive.
