Points to unclog a drain and please the householder

A blocked drain is not a joke and every home owner has been a victim of one at some time. In case of a complete blockage, the bathtub, sink, shower and the toilet can get filled with waste water that you have used. In such instances, this frustrating blockage will require you to put in a great deal of work, including the removal of all the accumulated deposits in the drains, and it is not likely you will find a remedy with typical domestic cleaning materials. If you get a professional plumber to do the job, it will take a great deal of money from your bank account. A more obstinate blockage will cost more to clear. In the event of multiple drains becoming clogged simultaneously in your home, you will wonder why you did not have your drains inspected, as a precaution.

How Do Clogged Drains Happen?.

The main reason for choked drainage is sheer carelessness. Kitchen sink drain clogs can take place when you don’t use the drain strainer to catch particles of food and rubbish from falling through the drain into the pipes. Accumulation of these particles can lead to drain clogs. To make matters worse, cooking grease and/or oil can build up in the pipes (or on a developing clog). Too much toilet paper flushed down the toilet invariably causes drain blockage.

One of the main reasons for a clogged toilet drain is flushing of unintended toilet items. Paper towels, baby wipes, and sanitary napkins have adverse effects both independently and together that increases clogging. Bathroom sinks, showers and bathtubs can become clogged when hair gets caught in the pipes and builds up. The blockage is aggravated with the usage of items such as shampoos, soaps, toothpaste and hair gel.

Unfortunately, clogs can occur as a result of problems that have nothing to do with what you put into your drains. Problems can also occur due to tree roots and rusting of pipes.

In case of a clogged drain, here are few things that you can do.

Drains can be cleared of blockages by using specially formulated acids and other chemical products. However these chemicals might have an adverse effect on your pipes and also on your health and environment. Fortunately, more natural methods for clearing clogged drains also exist. Running boiling water through the drains regularly is one natural method available. You could also use vinegar and baking soda. You just need to run diluted vinegar initially into the blocked pipe and spray baking soda moderately on it. Before pouring the boiling water over the mixture let it sit in the drain for about 15 minutes to clear the blockage.

The easiest maintenance method is to keep inspecting your drain pipes regularly and prevent problems rather than facing a problem later.

Your pipework is a working system that needs maintenance, just like your car or machinery. These systems need regular inspections and maintenance. Be familiar with the behavior of your drains, monitor their functioning and carry out regular inspections. Get the drains regularly checked by a professional plumber or drains contractor to avoid worries and expenditure on severe drain blockages. As a preventative measure, you should also have a plumbing technician snake all of your drain lines once a year or so. If your pipes are particularly prone to becoming blocked or you experience frequent drain clogging, it might be advisable to have your drainpipes snaked on a more regular basis. Taking a CCTV video scan of the major drain connections should be done at regular intervals.

It is essential that you check your pipelines periodically in order to avoid frustrating and costly problems later.
