What does it cost to rebuild a 8 hp briggs and stratton engine for a Big Mow I borrowed one it broke down
I borrowed this mower from my father-in-law, well he will be next Saturday when I get married. They said no it does not ever use oil and will be fine. I checked it the first three times I mowed and it was fine but sometime during the 4th or 5th time it apparantly developed major problems. I have over an acre and 65 trees to go around so it takes awhile to mow so since the time I last checked the oil I put about 7 hours on the mower. The oil was way down on the dipstick and you can see filings on the rag I used to wipe off the oil when it dries. It lost power and would not hardly move but I drained the oil and replaced it and now it sounds good and does not smoke or anything but it still loses power. I am just assuming it is shot since I see the filings. If you have reason to believe otherwise or some kind of idea what it would cost to rebuild the motor please answer my question. Thanks
you must choose one of two paths/
One, you get the mower serviced and if they find anthing thing wrong, have it repaired and move on with your life.
The other, return the mower and say it runs fine and hope it stays together until after the honeymoon.
It depends on what damage was done….. if it has no knocks, then the conrod sounds fine, is it a aluminum bore engine? (ex: doesn’t have cast iron cylinder liners, or isn’t a I/C or intek engine)
You could have just damaged the bore…..
It can run up to almost the price a new engine would cost to rebuild them…. Around 2-300 bucks (of course it depends on what style 8hp engine it has)
How old is the mower?? Did your soon to be inlaw maintain it or just add oil as needed?? it could have been going bad before you got it??!!! serivce it and return it,, and let your inlaw know what you have noticed!! he may apprciate that a lot more than an inlaw that will lie about stuff right off!!!
